Morning after….

February 22, 2010

Decided on a rest day today – hoping to catch up on some work that I did not get done at the wkd. Actually, not too stiff at all, which is good news. I thought movement would be an issue today. This either means I am superfit (ho ho!) or I did not do enough. Note to self – must try harder!

Weekend of training 2 – Linda

February 21, 2010

Day 2 of training – 10 mile run, 2 hours of bodypump and 2 hours of lunges etc in the gym. Decided to try and pull more weight than the tyre hence the gym session in place of the tyre pulling. Heard briefly from Ali that he had spent 11 hours on feet today, although some of that was apparently in the backyard so not sure exactly what he did. Still feel I am falling short on the training, however, time is now a major issue. At least I am getting plenty of practice of very little sleep!

Weekend of training 1 – Linda

February 21, 2010

Training today – 2 hour run, 1 hour bodypump, 2 hour tyre pulling. A couple of people decided to stop and chat whilst I was pulling the tyre, which was a pleasant change. Mind you, I was surprised to have to explain to someone where and what the North Pole was! Not so amused when a couple of people who had clearly been propping up the bar most of the afternoon decided to interfere with the tyre! It is strange how the whole world regards it as their duty to either be a comedian with funny statements such as ‘you have lost your car’ and ‘do you know there is a tyre behind you’ or feel compelled to offer you some abusive statement. ‘What the **** do you think you are doing?’ Lovely. Makes my day.

Greenwich park - Tyre pulling

Small break in Greenwich park

Well I took the tyre out for my first long ish walk with it. Not as bad as I thought it would be. Progress very slow though. Felt like an idiot – not a usual sight I guess in the centre of London.

Dwayne Fields has joined our team. This is great news.

Norwegian Press coverage

January 30, 2010

When we did the ice dive in Norway not only was it a bit of a local spectator event, it appears the Norwegian press came out with camera. Check this link out. Linda is on 5 and 6. Not a great look!

Norway – Linda

January 21, 2010

We head to Norway. This is the first time Ali will have met any of the competitors and me the ones that weren’t at the team building day. We are also concerned about the team. Are we now too close to incorporate a third team member? It is without doubt safer in a team of three but equally we now have only a short period of time to sort it out and get it together. Will we be able to find someone who firstly wants to join us and secondly we think will fit with us.

We were sharing a room with Dwayne Fields, who was signed up as an individual.

We flew to Oslo and travelled up to Hjerkinn – 4/5 hours by train. Norway is a beautiful country or at least what we saw of it it was. It is also very cold. Good training I guess – I lost feeling in my hands the moment I got off the train!

The week was split up into a couple of days of; kit issuing, training lectures, cross country skiing practice (and teaching for most of us), practice putting up and down tent, stoves etc. Followed by a 3 day mini exped. With the highlight (if you can call it that) being at the end – an ice dive i.e. you jump into a hole that has been cut into the ice – a useful training drill apparently!

Finished the week having had our eyes open about the challenge ahead. I am sure everyone came away vowing to train harder.

I believe the lowest temperature we experienced out in Norway was -22C. I have or should I say had a theory that if your cold it doesn’t matter if its -10 or -20 – you are already cold so you won’t notice. This is rubbish. You notice. We discovered new feelings of cold.
